Abstract

In times of change, it is crucial to reflect on the interdependence of regional autonomy, national sovereignty, and the supranational system. The study is based on qualitative analysis and critical reflection on autonomous, national, and supranational governance serving populations in their respective spaces. We examine the complementarity and integration of efforts grounded in shared particularities and the adoption of subsidiary models. From the Kantian cosmopolitan perspective, still on a turbulent journey towards the global ideal, we observe in the European Union model respect for individual particularities and arguments supporting community life. We conclude that, through interdependent and cumulative relationships, multilevel governance brings the local closer to the global and manifests in guarantees of security and political, economic, and social development.
