CARLOS VARGAS guest assistant in the History Department at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Completed a doctoral dissertation in Political Science, specializing in Public Policy, at NOVA FCSH, under the guidance of Professor Doctor Rui Vieira Nery (NOVA FCSH) and Professor Doctor Cristina Montalvão Sarmento (ISCSP-UL), entitled “Politics and culture. A decade of performing arts in Portugal (2006-2016)”. Has a degree in Classical Languages and Literatures from the Faculty of Letters of the Universidade de Lisboa and a degree in Machinery Engineer from the Instituto Militar dos Pupilos do Exército. Among other functions, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of OPART - Artistic Production Organization, EPE, managing entity of the National Theater of São Carlos, of the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, of the National Ballet Company, of the Teatro Camões, of the Victor Studios Córdon and Festival ao Largo (2016 - 2019), Chairman of the Board of Directors of Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, EPE (2012 - 2014), Member of the Board of Directors of OPART, E.P.E. (2007 - 2010), Acting President of the Governing Board of the National Theater of São Carlos, IP (2007), Member of the Governing Board of the National Theater of São Carlos, IP (2004 - 2007), Deputy Director of the Companhia Nacional de Bailado, IP (1997 - 2004), Administrator of the Portuguese Institute of Ballet and Dance (1996 - 1997).
